Maui `Ohana Gardens is an initiative of Food Security Hawai`i, a local non-profit dedicated to long-term regenerative local food solutions, all the way from healthy soil to nutritious and delicious “grown here not flown here” food on your plate.  

Hawai`i is learning how to steer away from 90% reliance on imported food, and there are proven methods we can implement at every level – from large-scale farming and livestock operations, to smaller family farms, to your own backyard.   

Whatever the scale, these local food solutions must serve the land, the waters, and the people in these fundamental ways:

• regenerating the soil
• protecting watersheds and reefs
• creating climate resilient food systems that sequester carbon, reduce our carbon footprint, and buffer against unpredictable climate changes
• building local skills that will carry into an abundant and resilient future
